Projects – Our approach
Since its formation in 2010, Sigma Catalyst Partners has been developing and executing a pipeline of projects in our focus areas namely M&A and special situations and Project Finance.
All projects are executed by our senior team with a broad track record in international business development and strategic M&A advisory.
We are currently focused on M&A and special situations opportunities incl. debt workouts and single ticket non-performing loans in cooperation with international investors. We get involved in workout projects where “new money” as equity, mezzanine debt or DIP financing is required and assist sponsors in structuring such solutions. Hospitality, food/agri and light manufacturing are focus sectors in Greece as well as the region (esp. Romania).
The Greek NPL market has progressed a great deal since 2014 when we started looking at distress and NPL projects. Large securitizations and NPL portfolio sales have been concluded between commercial banks and international investors. A wide ecosystem with NPL servicers has been developed to manage those portfolios.
Starting Q4 2021, we expect increased activity in workouts and single ticket/secondary NPL sales, which is good news as single ticket corporate and SMEs are our sweet spot.
How we work – Strategic M&A and Special Situations
While we continue to remain independent from local banking and industrial groups, we have maintained our connections with large corporates, NPL servicers, bank recovery units, advisors and law firms.
We add value to international investors by leveraging our local relationships to create partnering opportunities as we consider co-investment/profit share cooperation schemes to be the best way to “play” the Greek and SEE NPL market.
While primarily focused on advisory, we may selectively commit own capital as skin-in-the-game in transactions typically by carrying our own weight in initial analysis and transaction costs. Over 80% of our remuneration is results based as transaction or profit share schemes.
How we work – Project Finance & PPP Advisory
After a long period of inactivity, the Greek PPP market is reviving in all sectors esp. in the field of Waste Management (MSW, W2E, biogas), which is our focus in cooperation with a leading UK project finance boutique dating back to 2014. We leverage and combine our partners’ international expertise with our knowledge of the Greek PPP/PFI and WM market to support local and international EPC providers, operators and construction companies interested in this field by offering independent strategic and project finance advisory services.
